Sometimes it is hard to capture a place with words alone, thankfully the world has emojis. Emojis have quickly become a part of daily life and according to a study by Privilege Insurance, 80% of people use emojis in communication. Since there are emojis for practically everything (except lederhosen, still waiting for that one), we thought it would be fun to come up with combinations of emojis that represent the city of Villach. Here are five emoji groups we would use to sum up the city we call home.

The Villach Hauptplatz is the most photographed location in Villach - just do a quick internet search of “Villach” and you are sure to see the beautiful Hauptplatz in all its glory. When we think of the Villach Hauptplatz we think of the local businesses, friendly faces, and historic Pfarrkirche St. Jakob that make the city center such a special place. It's the home of all of the city’s cultural events, a great place to go shopping, and our favorite spot for a cup of coffee.
HEART OF THE ALPE ADRIA REGION
The unique landscape of mountains and lakes makes the Alpe Adria region a beautiful place to live and lucky for us, Villach is right in the middle of it. Known for its many recreation possibilities, there is so much to do in the region. Cycling, hiking, swimming, skiing, rock climbing, and more - all of this is possible in Villach. Not to mention how easy it is to do a quick trip to the neighboring countries of Italy or Slovenia.
EC VSV
V-S-V! The EC Panaceo VSV is Villach’s ice hockey team. As soon as the season starts, fans gather at the Villach Stadthalle to root for the home team (especially when they play against rivals EC KAC from nearby Klagenfurt). Ice hockey season is always a fun time in the city and games are a great way to liven up a rainy or snowy day.
KIRCHTAG
Kirchtag is Austria’s largest traditional folk festival and is one of the highlights of the year. Every summer people from all over gather in Villach to celebrate and enjoy the festivities. Kirchtag means dancing the night away, enjoying rides at the carnival, and reconnecting with friends and family over a couple of beers. What would Villach be without Kirchtag? We wouldn’t want to find out.
HIGH TECH
You’ve heard of Silicon Valley, but have you heard about the Silicon Alps? Villach is a part of the Silicon Alps high-tech network in Austria and is a hub for high tech innovation. Villach is home to the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and to companies such as 3M, Flowserve, Infineon, Imerys, LAM Research, Intel, and many more. The future is looking bright for Villach, both literally and figuratively.
