In recent years, Carinthia has undergone an impressive development, aiming to become one of Europe’s leading technology and innovation hubs. A look at recent achievements highlights the dynamic progress the region has experienced.

A MAGNET FOR BUSINESSES

Carinthia is at the forefront of business settlements in Austria. In 2023, 30 companies successfully established themselves in Carinthia. These settlements not only invigorate the Carinthian economy but also lay the foundation for 450 new jobs in the next two years. From green technologies and medical technology to IT development, the range of companies choosing Carinthia is impressive, and the origins of these companies, from Italy and Germany to the UK, underscore the region's diversity and attractiveness.

STRONGER TOGETHER: THE ROLE OF LOCATION AGENCIES

A key factor behind this growth is the close collaboration between BABEG and the Austrian Business Agency (ABA). Thanks to their support, Carinthia has secured the top spot in the ABA’s nationwide ranking for business settlements, right behind Vienna. This partnership allows for targeted business settlements while simultaneously promoting research and development – a crucial step towards future viability and sustainability.

A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE

Targeted business settlements in key areas such as information and communication technology, electronic-based systems, and green technologies are creating an environment that makes the state attractive to companies of all sizes. The expansion of infrastructure, such as the Koralmbahn and the Southern Research Axis, as well as the creation of new educational institutions, technology parks, and the settlement of renowned research institutions, contribute to creating a location that fosters innovation and offers companies excellent development opportunities. The goal is to establish Carinthia as a stronghold for sustainable and innovative technologies.

Five more business settlements in Carinthia’s future sectors are already in the pipeline for 2024. The expansion of the High Tech Campus Villach, the development of the Lakeside Park Klagenfurt, the creation of a new knowledge and innovation district in St. Paul im Lavanttal, and the establishment of another internationally top-level research center (Comet Center), as well as the focus on research at the intersection of medicine and technology and the expansion of Joanneum Research in Carinthia, are comprehensive strategic measures initiated by BABEG Carinthia to strengthen the location as a leading center for dynamism and innovation.

Overall, these measures will further enhance Carinthia’s potential as a driver of economic development and social progress, securing the region's position as a leading innovation and technology hub.
