EXPANSION PROGRESSING: TECHNOLOGY PARK VILLACH UNDERGOES TRANSFORMATION
The tpv Technology Park Villach is currently experiencing an exciting phase of change and progress. In addition to the ongoing construction of a new educational facility, the establishment of a riverside terrace along the Drau River has commenced, serving as a new gathering space, including flood protection measures.
KICKOFF FOR RIVERSIDE TERRACE AND FLOOD PROTECTION PROJECT
The new riverside terrace in the Technology Park Villach is designed as a vibrant space for interaction and relaxation, akin to the popular Drau Terraces in downtown Villach. The seating steps along the riverbank will be made of local larch wood and planted with native flowering perennials, trees, and grasses to create a modern atmosphere, inviting both employees, students, apprentices, as well as pedestrians and cyclists to linger.
To improve access to the technology park, the bike path in the High-Tech Campus area will also be relocated to the University of Applied Sciences, with additional connections planned for cyclists and pedestrians.
Alongside the construction of the riverside terrace, the establishment of crucial protection against natural disasters is also on the agenda. With an investment of 7.6 million euros, the first phase of flood protection measures along the Drau and Ossiach streams will be implemented. The construction of dams and concrete walls, particularly in the Technology Park Villach area, will protect the region from the consequences of flooding. As part of this, an 800-meter-long dam is planned to be built in the tpv’s area. Extensive aquatic ecological improvements, such as bank lowering, are planned to offset the impact on nature.
FUTURE-ORIENTED EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS EMERGING
Another ambitious undertaking in the Technology Park is the creation of new educational facilities. The construction of a public kindergarten for the city of Villach, as well as a modern apprenticeship and further education campus, is well underway. The kindergarten will not only provide additional childcare places but will also be equipped with a unique "Mini Education Lab" aimed at sparking children's interest in STEM subjects. Meanwhile, the education campus will house state-of-the-art workshops, laboratories, training rooms, and offices, enabling close collaboration with renowned educational institutions and companies. Both buildings are slated to be completed in autumn 2024.
The construction of these projects marks significant milestones for the future viability and innovative strength of the tpv Technology Park Villach and the entire region. They demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and a thriving educational landscape that addresses the needs of residents and businesses alike.
