Summertime is barbeque time, that’s for sure. But regardless of whether it’s a simple charcoal grill, a small portable one to take with you, or a luxury model that can get to a hellishly hot 900 degrees, whether it’s an egg-shaped Japanese ceramic grill, a dutch oven, or a smoker, fortunately more and more people also want to know what exactly is going on the grill. In addition to meat, fish and vegetables are becoming increasingly popular, and fruit has even recently made it onto the grill. In the Villach - Faaker See - Ossiacher See region there are many local food producers who pay attention to animal welfare, and grow and harvest healthy food without harmful substances.

We’ve created a list of the best regional food producers, so that your barbequing experience becomes an absolute highlight - and so you know where you can get everything that will make your BBQ-loving heart beat faster.

TSCHUDL-HOF IN VILLACH/VASSACH

Hans and Julia Putz-Himmel have run this farm since 2019, and are the 10th generation of farmers to do so. The poultry and cattle are fed exclusively on the high-quality feed that’s grown on their own fields. Tschudl-Hof offers cuts such as tomahawk (ribeye) steak, strip loin steak, or tenderloin from their Charolais cattle, for a perfect grilling experience.

FRIERSS BUTCHER SHOP IN VILLACH

Sausage, ham, and meat specialties are among the pet projects of the Frierss family. For barbeque season, Frierrs offers a selected range of bratwurst specialities such as a BBQ beef griller, bratwurst with Speck, or hemp bratwurst.

SEEFISCHEREI IN VILLACH

In the Seefischerei on Italiener Straße there is fresh fish from their own fish farm at Lake Millstatt. And in addition to fresh fish, you can also get great tips on how best to prepare it.

FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLES FROM VILLACH'S FARMERS

Whether vegetable skewers, stuffed tomatoes, or grilled peaches - the more colorful the better! You can get fresh organic vegetables and fruit every Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Villach’s Organic Farmers’ Market on Hans-Gasser-Platz. In addition, various local producers offer many types of organic meats, which are also perfect for grilling.
