GROWTH IN VILLACH TECHNOLOGY PARK: EDUCATION, INFRASTRUCTURE & FLOOD PROTECTION
The Technology Park Villach (tpv) is developing dynamically: over 800 jobs and 30 companies are already based here, underscoring Villach’s attractiveness and forward-thinking approach as a business location. With new educational opportunities and infrastructure projects, the tpv is setting standards in the region.
CAMPO - A TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR THE FUTURE
The recent opening of the “Campo” education campus marks a significant milestone for the tpv Technology Park Villach. Covering 1,500 square meters, this campus provides modern workshops for the training of apprentices and skilled workers. The campus, an initiative of the nonprofit GPS (Gemeinnützige Personalservice Kärnten GmbH), was made possible through investments from the State of Carinthia and the city of Villach. Infineon Austria, bfi Carinthia, and WIFI Carinthia are among the tenants advancing apprenticeship training to a new level.
MODERN KINDERGARTEN WITH EARLY STEM EDUCATION
A new public kindergarten with four groups and an integrated daycare center has been established in the tpv, offering space for around 90 boys and girls. A special highlight is the adjacent Mini Educational Lab, which opened its doors this fall for Villach’s youngest explorers. This facility, specially designed for children aged three to six, playfully encourages interest in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). On over 550 square meters of outdoor space and in flexible lab rooms, children explore complex topics under the guidance of professional staff. Through the Mini Educational Lab, Villach is launching an educational initiative that nurtures young children's curiosity and develops new teaching methods through interaction with experts.
PROTECTIVE MEASURES FOR THE FUTURE
Initial flood protection measures have been implemented along the Drava River to address increasingly frequent weather events. New dams and reinforced concrete walls will protect the area around the tpv and other parts of Villach from flooding until 2025. These protection measures, jointly funded by the City of Villach, the State of Carinthia, and the federal government, are intended to provide long-term structural protection for 2,000 people and 160 buildings.
In the tpv, Villach impressively demonstrates how modern education and infrastructure go hand in hand to create sustainable conditions for the economy and society.
