1. LAKE OSSIACH BIKE ROUTE
A perfect cycling route for nature lovers, the Lake Ossiach Bike route is a round trip journey that is suitable for beginners. This route almost exclusively follows the lake and passes by several sights of the region. From the bike route, it is possible to see Ossiach Abbey and the famous Steinhaus in Steindorf. Every year, Lake Ossiach hosts a Car Free Day for sports enthusiasts to take over the streets. Due to the low grade of the route, this is a popular option for family bike rides.
2. R3 CARNIC ALPS CYCLE PATH
The R3 cycle path runs parallel to the Italian border and follows the Gail river. This well-paved and typically traffic free cycling path is a popular option for families due to the slight downwards slope of the trail. The R3 has excellent views of the Carnic and Gailtal Alps and goes through rustic villages and green pastures.
3. CICLOVIA ALPE-ADRIA BIKE ROUTE
This cycling route starts in Salzburg, Austria and ends in Grado, Italy. Lucky for Villach locals, it also passes through Villach giving cycling lovers the opportunity to bike from the Alps to the Adriatic sea. The CicloVia Alpe-Adria bike route takes cyclists through Spittal an der Drau, Villach, and Arnoldstein before reaching the Italian border. This is an excellent trail for experienced cyclists. A popular route is to travel to the Italian town of Tarvis from Lake Ossiach.
4. BURGRUNDE LAKE FAAK BIKE ROUTE
The Burgrunde Lake Faak bike route is a round trip journey from Lake Faak to the idyllic Lake Aichwald, to the historic Burgarena Finkenstein and back. From the Burgarena Finkenstein, there are fantastic views of Lake Faak and the surrounding area. The quiet Lake Aichwald is also an excellent destination for a summer swim to take a break from cycling.
5. DRAU BIKE ROUTE
The Drauradweg is a bike route that starts at the origin of the river Drau and follows the river's path from East Tyrol in Austria to Marburg in Slovenia. In Carinthia, the Drauradweg is signposted as the R1 and was awarded 5 stars for its maintenance. Several bathing lakes are accessible from the bike route making it perfect for a summer bike ride.
6. LAKE WÖRTH TO LAKE OSSIACH BIKE ROUTE
For a lovely and scenic bike ride, consider the popular Lake Wörth to Lake Ossiach bike route. This long ride is great for experienced cyclists and goes past Lake Ossiach and Lake Wörth, as well as the scenic vacation destination of Velden am Wörthersee.
7. GERLITZEN KANZELHÖHE TO LAKE OSSIACH BIKE ROUTE
An exciting bike route that takes cyclists from Gerlitzen mountain down to beautiful Lake Ossiach. Start your adventure with a ride on the Gerlitzen Kanzelbahn up to the Kanzelhöhe mountain station to take in the stunning views of the lake. Once at the top, cyclists can enjoy a downhill ride to the shores of Lake Ossiach.
8. LAKE FAAK MOOR CYCLE PATH
This short and pleasant cycle path is a circular tour that explores Lake Faak and the Lake Faak Moor nature preserve. The round trip cycle path only takes about an hour to complete and is a perfect option for beginner cyclists. Enjoy the sounds of birds on the Lake Faak moor and enjoy lunch in town.
9. TRANSROMANICA TOUR 3
This long bike route takes cyclists past two of Carinthia's most beautiful lakes, Lake Ossiach and Lake Wörth. On the Transromanica Tour 3 bike route, cyclists have the opportunity to explore the cultural history of the region by visiting the many churches and museums on the route.
10. CASTLE BIKE PATH: DAMTSCHACH, WERNBERG, ROSEGG UND VELDEN
Mountains, pastures, and castles await cyclists on this roundtrip bike route. In 30 kilometers, cyclists can view 4 castles and more than 20 monuments. The Castle Bike Path has its own free Castle Bike Path app so cyclists can learn about the rich history of the castles while also getting some exercise. Enjoy regional food at Schloss Wernberg and wander the labyrinth at Schloss Rosegg. This bike path certainly has enough activities to make for a lovely day trip.
