Summer in Carinthia is unlike any other. With so much natural beauty, excellent weather, and fun events, it is no problem finding ways to enjoy your summer days. Why not dance the night away at the Wörthersee or take part in Austria’s largest folk festival? Don’t let the summer pass you by, get out there and enjoy what the region has to offer. Here are some of our top picks for summer events in Carinthia - see you there!

FETE BLANCHE, WÖRTHERSEE

Every year party people from all over Austria take over the shores of Lake Wörthersee for the epic Fete Blanche summer party. What started as a summer celebration for Carinthian high society has turned into the top event of the summer season. More than 30,000 visitors dressed all in white come to Fete Blanche to dance the night away to live DJs on multiple stages. Get your most stylish white clothing ready and be prepared for a great time. 

 

WORLD BODYPAINTING FESTIVAL, KLAGENFURT

Watch as Carinthia’s capital city of Klagenfurt transforms into a living art gallery at the World Bodypainting Festival. Since 1997, international artists have competed in this world championship in bodypainting to present their amazing artwork. From morning to midnight, international bands and DJs provide the soundtrack for this one of a kind art experience. With live music, art installations, food trucks, workshops, and more it is the perfect party atmosphere. 

 

CARINTHIAN SUMMER, OSSIACH AND VILLACH

During summer, the Villach region comes alive with the sounds of the Carinthian Summer music festival. Every year, music lovers can see world-renowned soloists, conductors, and musical groups perform on the shores of Lake Ossiach. The Carinthian Summer has become a top event of the Austrian cultural calendar and one of the most famous music festivals in the country. For more than 40 years, It has been bringing the best in classical, jazz, and crossover music to Austria. Music venues for this amazing concert series include the historic Ossiach Abbey, the modern Villach Congress Center, and other charming Austrian locales. There are two months of concerts, so be sure to catch one before summer is through.  

VILLACHER KIRCHTAG, VILLACH

Villacher Kirchtag is Austria’s largest traditional festival and is the highlight of the year for Villach residents. The first Saturday of August kicks off the weeklong celebration which includes more than 130 events, a carnival, and plenty of beer and food. The highlight of the week is Kirchtag Samstag with its folk clothing parade, multiple music performances, and fireworks. Be sure to dress in your best Austrian tracht and get ready to have fun - it’s an unforgettable experience for everyone!

EUROPEAN BIKE WEEK, FAAKERSEE

You don’t have to be a Harley fan to enjoy European Bike Week, but it certainly helps! Every year, lake Faakersee transforms into Harley village as more than 100,000 motorcyclists come to Carinthia for this large motorcycle rally. Live music, great food, and bikes galore - what’s not to love? Don’t miss the European Bike Week parade as hundreds of motorcycles ride through the historic Villach city center. I can already hear those engines revving.

  • Starnacht am Wörthersee: Calling all Schlager music fans! See your favorite Schlager music stars perform the top hits and golden oldies at the beautiful Lake Wörthersee. 
  • Taste Carinthia at one of the region’s food festivals: Fishfest in Feld am See, Salamifest in Eberndorf, Honeyfest in Hermagor - the list goes on and on! Taste Carinthian specialties and celebrate with locals at one of the regions many food festivals.
  • Bleiburger Wiesenmarkt, Bleiburg: this week-long folk festival has been celebrated in Carinthia since 1393. A fun carnival for everyone.
